Why use AI
DataForSEO gives you raw data. AI analysis turns that data into answers: "what's the dominant intent for this keyword?", "which of these competitor pages are actually ranking for the same topic?", "cluster these 500 keywords into the four or five topics my content should cover."
SEODesktop's AI features are optional. You can ignore them entirely and still use every other view. But if you connect a provider, every result screen gains an Analyze with AI button.
What AI analysis does
| Capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Intent classification | Tags each keyword as informational, navigational, transactional, commercial, or local. |
| SERP summarization | Condenses the top 10 results into a brief describing angle, audience and content type. |
| Keyword clustering | Groups a large keyword list into topic clusters — the backbone of pillar/cluster content strategy. |
| Competitor positioning | Compares two or more competing pages and surfaces differences in depth, format and target audience. |
| LLM mention tracking | Queries Claude / ChatGPT / Gemini / Perplexity and reports how often your brand is mentioned vs. competitors. |
Providers you can use
SEODesktop is provider-agnostic. Pick whichever makes sense for your privacy, cost and latency trade-offs:
- Claude (Anthropic) — best for deep analysis, long-context tasks, and structured outputs.
- OpenAI (GPT) — fastest for short summaries and bulk classification.
- Ollama — runs 100% locally. No data leaves your machine. Slower than cloud providers but free after the initial model download.
You can configure multiple providers and switch between them per-query.
What it costs
AI analysis costs are not charged by SEODesktop. You pay your chosen LLM provider directly, using their API key. Ballpark:
- A single SERP summary costs ~$0.002–0.005 on Claude or GPT-4o
- Clustering 500 keywords runs about $0.02–0.05
- Ollama is free (runs locally), just slower
